Frequently Asked Questions

A psychotherapist and psychologist both have their Master of Arts and/or Doctorate and training in psychology. They are both regulated professions in Ontario under The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and/or College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPA). A social worker is also a regulated professional under The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) who may be able to provide psychotherapy as well. All three regulated professionals can perform the controlled act of psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy. What this means is that anyone in Ontario who uses the title of “psychotherapist” must be a regulated member by a regulatory body in Ontario in order to provide psychotherapy as a service. You may check under the colleges website to see your therapists name listed and their registration number.
