FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know that you are a psychotherapist? and what is the difference between a psychiatrist, clinical social worker, psychotherapist and psychologist? +

A psychotherapist and psychologist both have their Master of Arts and/or Doctorate and training in psychology. They are both regulated professions in Ontario under The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and/or College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPA). A social worker is also a regulated professional under The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) who may be able to provide psychotherapy as well. All three regulated professionals can perform the controlled act of psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy. What this means is that anyone in Ontario who uses the title of “psychotherapist” must be a regulated member by a regulatory body in Ontario in order to provide psychotherapy as a service. You may check under the colleges website to see your therapists name listed and their registration number.

Are my psychotherapy sessions confidential? +

Yes, your privacy and confidentiality are important to Unwind Psychotherapy. Your personal information will be kept strictly confidential, meaning that no information can be shared without your consent to release information to other parties. However, there are certain exceptions and limitations to confidentiality according to the Ontario law and ethical practices, which will be fully discussed with you during your consultation or session.

What happens if I miss or cancel my psychotherapy appointment? +

All appointments require at least 24 hours cancellation notice via email. If a session is not cancelled within 24 hours or you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, you will be billed 100% of the cost for you session booked.

Disclaimer: Please note that all payments must be up to date and paid before your next session. If payments are not up to date, your next scheduled appointment with your therapist will be cancelled automatically.

Does OHIP or private insurance cover psychotherapy? +

Extended Health Care Plans (Insurance): Majority of private insurance through your employer or school may cover psychotherapy. Please check with your insurance provider, employer, or school to determine if you have coverage.

OHIP: Psychotherapy is a regulated health profession in Ontario, however, it is unfortunately NOT covered under OHIP.
